Hello, for my assignment, I am testing whether a CBR (Contsant Bit Rate) or a VBR (Variable Bit Rate) is better for encoding MP3’s. For each sample, please listen to the original clip and then answer the questions about version A and B. Before you begin the test, it is recomended that you: 1

  • use headphones for listening
  • switch off all sound enhancers like SRS or Dolby
  • set any equalizers to flat
  • set the volume to your normal music listening volume

Thank you for participating!

Sample 1

First clip! This is a section of Alex Clare’s song, Too Close. It is quite an active part of the song testing the encoder’s ability to assess the required bitrate.

Sample 3
